When I was 5 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. While in the hospital being treated for that, I started bleeding. I was pretty sure I was losing another baby. After three days I was discharged and went home to wait. For an end to my seventh pregnancy. At 7 weeks, while still bleeding, I saw my obstetrician. On the ultrasound we saw a tiny little heartbeat. I tried not to get my hopes up - we had seen baby hearts that stopped beating before.
The bleeding continued, but so did the pregnancy.
At 22 weeks, our baby was given a scary diagnosis of a serious congenital heart defect. Because of this, during my pregnancy I had lots of ultrasounds, so we saw that amazing heart beating many times.
That little heart, with all its imperfections, belongs to the baby girl who makes her mama's heart whole.
